Joué

Joué - a dressing table designed by Eureka and crafted by MADE, supported by Crafts on Peel | year: 2024 | team: Timothy Cheung and Matthew Pang | photo credits: Lou Yung

Joué is an experimental creation by Eureka, aimed at reinterpreting traditional items with a modern twist. The use of natural ash adds a touch of warmth and authenticity to the final piece. Additionally, partnering with MADE, a skilled craftsman who promotes traditional skills, further enhances the craftsmanship and intimate quality of Joué.

The unique piece of furniture that draws its inspiration from traditional dressing tables. The design combines the elegance of a traditional dressing table with modern functionality and storage solutions. The exterior of Joué features a plain and subtle timber surface. The timber on the surface was carefully selected to appreciate natural beauty, giving it a sophisticated appearance while also offering protection to the valuable items it holds.

One of the key features of Joué is its dual function as a storage unit for jewellery and accessories. When the table is opened, drawers and compartments of various sizes are revealed. These storage spaces are designed to accommodate different types of jewellery, providing a practical and organized solution for keeping precious items safe.

The primary rotating hinge of Joué is constructed with two pieces of timber that are inserted into each other. These hinges are crafted with rounded edges, seamlessly integrating with the overall form of the table. By minimising the use of metal ironmongeries, the design maintains a cohesive and natural aesthetic.
